Benefits of homeownership

Studies show that moving a family from a substandard rental situation to homeownership improves:

  • Overall family health

  • Children's performance in school

  • Family financial stability and opportunity to build wealth, breaking the cycle of poverty.

Process for homeownership

  1. Qualified applicants are selected through an application and screening process

  2. Selected families participate in building their home and other homes in the community to build up "sweat equity" hours

  3. Families make a down payment and pay a mortgage (including taxes and insurance) – this is a true "hand up" and not a "hand out."
